Joe Bartko brings an extensive background of announcing and pageantry experience to the microphone tonight. He attended Niwot H.S. and was a member of the marching, concert and jazz bands, and during that time, began his tenure in drum corps as a percussionist with the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. He continued his involvement in the drum corps activity as the long-time announcer for “Corps Encore” in Ogden, UT, the “Mile High Showcase” and “Drums Along the Rockies.” As a highly sought-after performing arts and sports announcer, Mr. Bartko has also announced a variety of other events including rodeos, marching band competitions, corporate functions, and sporting events, including the Niwot H.S. Football games.

In 1992, Mr. Bartko, along with other percussion educators, created and founded the Rocky Mountain Percussion Association, where he has announced every season. He has announced across the country for Winter Guard International (WGI) including the Percussion World Championships for over 25 years. Mr. Bartko has announced a variety of marching band events and Colorado Bandmasters Association (CBA) marching band competitions. He served as the on-air host for the CBA State Marching Championships broadcast and does continued voice-over work for radio and television. Since 2011, Mr. Bartko has served as the “voice” of the “Colorado State University Marching Band,” announcing at all home football games of the CSU Rams, Denver Bronco halftime performances and bowl game appearances. In addition to his work doing radio and TV voice-overs, Mr. Bartko was the on-camera spokesperson for FOHVAMP – the “Families of Homicide Victims and Missing Persons”.

Sal Martorano is retired after 35+ years of teaching experience in St. Vrain and Colorado Springs Schools. Bands under “Mr. M’s” direction won several first-place regional marching festivals as well as consistent superior ratings at numerous concert and jazz band festivals. His concert and jazz bands performed at CMEA conventions and the ASBDA National Convention. His bands have performed at Disneyland, Knottsberry Farm, Sea World, Magic Mountain, Disney World, the U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas, Nassau Bahamas High School, and placed first at the All-American Music Festival in Orlando, Florida. Mr. M was inducted into the Colorado Bandmasters’ Hall of Fame, Colorado state winner of the Stanbury Award for the American School Band Directors Association. He received the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Education, and was named Educator of the Year at Erie Jr./Sr. High School. Mr. M was the director of the A-AA All State Jazz Band, Chairman of the Colorado Bandmasters Convention, president of the Colorado Bandmasters Association, served as Chairman of the All State Jazz Bands, Secretary of Phi Beta Mu Honorary Band Fraternity, and president of the Colorado Italian Musicmasters’ Association. He has served as a guest clinician and adjudicator throughout the state. Mr. M has also performed with the Longmont Symphony Orchestra, Longmont Community Band, the Colorado Ambassadors of Music, the Modernaires Swing Band, and is presently leader and performing with Swing Shift Jazz Combo.

Bill Wilkinson graduated from Collinsville High School in Collinsville, IL in 1967. Mr. Wilkinson received a full trumpet performance scholarship from John Brown University. He traveled for three years playing 150 shows a year with a group called The Sound Generation. He traveled with this group while he was a full-time student at John Brown University. He has performed with Lionel Hampton, Florence Henderson, Roy Clarke, Pat Boone, Andre Crouch and performed for President Nixon and President Ford. He received his B.S. Music Education Degree from John Brown University in 1974. Mr. Wilkinson married his college girlfriend, Beth, in 1971. They have three beautiful children, Summer, Megan and Seth and three very beautiful grandchildren, Madeline, Emma and Jackson. In 2005, Mr. Wilkinson retired from Longmont public schools after 31 years. During his years in the St. Vrain Valley School District, his bands were selected to perform at The Colorado Music Educators Convention 5 times and the Colorado Bandmasters Convention one time. His marching bands were invited to perform half-time shows at two Denver Broncos games. Mr. Wilkinson started The Skyline Jazz Festival in 1979. He started The Longmont All Star Jazz Band in 2001 and is still the director. Mr. Wilkinson started the St. Vrain Band Night in 1983. In 1989, Mr. Wilkinson was selected to direct The Colorado All State Jazz Band. His bands have received superior ratings every year he taught. He is currently the band director at Rocky Mountain Christian School and Summit Classical Academy.
