For years, Crayons to Calculators has distributed thousands of backpacks filled with school supplies to students throughout the St. Vrain Valley. A partnership between the Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley and Impact on Education, the program has eased the burden on families in Boulder County and the surrounding communities with financial need to ensure students have what they need to start the year off right.
The Crayons to Calculators program has traditionally included community supply drives and hundreds of volunteers working together to stuff backpacks for distribution. This year, due to public health guidelines, the program has been modified to protect the health and safety of volunteers and students.
This year, Crayons to Calculators will be using only community financial contributions to provide more than 5,900 St. Vrain students with school supplies to support their learning – whether that learning takes place at home or at school. School supply kits scaled to grade levels will be purchased from a wholesale provider and delivered to schools around the district. The Education Foundation will work with organizations, businesses, and individuals to support the financial costs of these kits.
Generous support from Western Disposal Services will provide half of Crayons to Calculators’ school supplies again this year. Additional monetary donations are needed more than ever to meet the needs of the students.
