Student Data Privacy – Parent Resources
How is Education Data Used?
The use of data helps guide parents, teachers, schools, districts and state leaders as we work together to improve student achievement so all children graduate ready for college and career. While using data effectively to guide improvement in instruction and student achievement, the Colorado Department of Education and St. Vrain Valley School District takes seriously its moral and legal responsibility to protect student privacy and ensure data confidentiality. St.Vrain’s annual FERPA notification to parents is included in the St. Vrain Behavioral Codebook Schools and school districts have always collected data on students. Instead of paper files, much of that data is now collected through computers and online resources. While the systems for organizing and managing this information have changed over the years, St. Vrain’s commitment to confidentiality remains the same. It is our responsibility to ensure the security of each student’s education record and we take that responsibility very seriously. There are also existing federal and state laws in place that protect student information. St. Vrain has a comprehensive student data privacy policy that outlines security mechanisms that protect student data. A copy of our Student Information Privacy Policy can be viewed below. Please take a moment to review it and the other student data privacy resources available.
