FAQs

Q:  What does “Healthy School Meals for All” cover?
A:  Students will be able to enjoy 1 breakfast meal and 1 lunch meal at no charge each day. Additional meals and/or a la carte are not included. A breakfast meal includes fruit, milk and an entree.  A lunch meal includes fruit, vegetables, entree and milk. Students are required to take a fruit and/or vegetable with each type of meal.

Q:  When does “Healthy Meals for All Colorado Students” go into effect?
A:  School districts have the ability to “Opt In” to Healthy School Meals for All annually, beginning August 2023.  SVVSD “opts in” annually.

Q:  What happens to negative balances accrued during the 22-23 school year?
A:  All balances accrued prior to a district opting in to Healthy School Meals for All are the responsibility of the student’s family/guardian to cover and will remain on the student’s Infinite Campus account until they are paid off. Families can find those balances in Infinite Campus under Student Fees.  The balance listed on Infinite Campus is under the jurisdiction of the Finance Department; any negotiations of the balance or payment plans are at the discretion of the school administration and the Finance Department.

Q:  Will we need to fill out Education Benefits Forms for the 24-25 school year?
A: It is still encouraged for all families to complete the requested income forms (Education Benefit Forms) used to determine Free and Reduced income eligibility. This ensures the district receives appropriate funding both in the classroom (general fund) and at meal time (meal program fund for applicable sites). Eligibility of Free or Reduced provides opportunities for families such as decreased student fees of applicable programs or activities. If you receive SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid, or if your household is listed in Infinite Campus as having students that are foster, migrant, homeless, or runaway, you may already qualify without the need of completing an Education Benefit Form. Check the status of your application or print a letter on LINQ Connect.

Q:  Can a family opt out of having their student eat for free?
A: Families cannot opt out or continue paying for their students’ meals.

Q:  Will school nutrition staff be paid more next year as a direct result of Proposition FF passing?
A: Districts will have the ability to “Opt In” to receiving stipends for staffing for an anticipated future school year. SVVSD intends on “opting in” when/if state funds become available.

Q:  Can we expect more local foods offered as a direct result of Proposition FF passing next year?
A:  Districts will have the ability to “Opt In” to receive additional funds for an anticipated future school year. SVVSD intends on “opting in” when/if state funds become available.
