headshot of Coreen Duffy

Coreen Duffy is the Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Conducting at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she conducts the Chamber Singers and oversees the choral program. Her duties at CU Boulder include leading the graduate program in choral conducting at both the master’s and doctoral levels.

Duffy is also Artistic Director of the Seicento Baroque Ensemble, a Boulder-based semi-professional choral ensemble committed to working with period instruments and historically-informed performance practice.

Prior to her appointment at Colorado, Duffy served on the faculties of the University of Montana and the University of Miami Frost School of Music. As director of choral activities at the University of Montana, Duffy conducted the Chamber Chorale and University Choir, and served as Artistic Director of the Missoula Community Chorus. Under her direction, the University of Montana Chamber Chorale performed at the Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition (Marktoberdorf, Germany), the 75th Anniversary Festival of Music at the Hochschule für Musik Saar (Saarbrücken, Germany), Cadogan Hall (London), Carnegie Hall, Southwark Cathedral (London), the Northwest Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (Spokane), the Montana International Choral Festival (Missoula), and served as the masterclass choir for the International Conducting Competition (Marktoberdorf, Germany).

Duffy is an active clinician and composer; her works are published by ECS Publishing, Hinshaw Music, Pavane Publishing, and Walton Music. She specializes in Jewish choral music, studying the repertoire, performance practice, and composition, as well as engaging in DEI work combating anti-Semitism in choral programming, including tokenism, caricature, erasure, and boycotting. Duffy has presented sessions on the subject internationally, including the international conference of the European Center for Jewish Music (EZJM) in Hannover, Germany, and national conferences of the College Music Society (CMS), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO), the North American Jewish Choral Festival (NAJCF), and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

Duffy is Vice President of the National Collegiate Choral Organization. She recently served as President-Elect of the Northwest region of ACDA, as well as Northwest representative of the National Choral Council of NAfME. At the University of Montana, Duffy served as Chair of the General Education Committee for the university.

Duffy earned degrees from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music (DMA choral music), the University of Miami Frost School of Music (MM conducting), the University of Michigan Law School (Juris Doctor), and the University of Michigan (BMA and BA with honors in English).
